Welcome to the Sullivan House
Mauresina Plantation
Circa 1850

Mauresina was a Rice Plantation back in the 1850’s owned by M.H. Lance. Mr. Lance also owned Wedgefield Plantation and produced approximately 660.000 lbs. of rice per year. Over the years Mauresina has change owners many times and a list dating 1850 to 1960 will be provided to the purchaser of this property.

North Hampton and Friendfield Plantations, also rice producing plantations are located north west across the Sampit River. Friendfields eastern river bank is adorned with broken pottery and even an old grinding wheel that lay in the wetlands. Old wooden barges dot the river bank, a reminder of an era past.

The ruins of a fish factory visible from Mauresina was operational around the turn of the century and closed in 1926. Old rice field ditches dug by hand were used to irrigate the fields, which are still evident, up and down both sides of this river.

The entrance to The Sullivan House is lined with grand live oak trees, each draped in Spanish Moss. In fact there are approximately sixteen live oaks, cedar trees, palmetto trees and beautiful azaleas located on this parcel. This property is almost totally secluded with the exception of one other house located across a small pond on the north side of the house. There are no other houses within two miles, it simply has a breathtaking view of fields, trees, river marshes, and wildlife.

All in all this property has no shortage of history, privacy and nature. Located just minutes from Georgetown you can travel down the river by boat to shop and dine in the Old Historic Downtown Georgetown or take an evening cruise to Winyah Bay to watch the sunset and return under a canopy of stars.
